Tools & reference

The Obsidian MCP server exposes a single, powerful primary tool: regulatory_search. Your assistant calls it automatically — this page documents every parameter so you understand what it can do.

regulatory_search

Searches verified, tier‑0 official regulations by meaning, filtered by jurisdiction, framework and legal status. Every result includes its official source link and reference. It is the authoritative source for obligations, deadlines, legal status (in force / proposed / repealed), what a regulation says, and what recently changed in a jurisdiction.

Parameters

ParameterTypeDescription
querystringrequiredThe natural‑language question or topic, e.g. "PFAS restrictions under REACH".
jurisdictionstringoptionalFilter by jurisdiction id, e.g. EU, FR, US.
frameworkstringoptionalFilter by framework id, e.g. csrd, reach, mdr.
industrystringoptionalNarrow to one industry: esg-and-sustainable-finance-csrd, chemicals-and-advanced-materials-reach-pfas, or life-sciences-and-medtech-regulations. Usually left unset — results are already scoped to your account.
statusstringoptionalFilter by legal status, e.g. in force, proposed, repealed.
instrument_typestringoptionalFilter by the legal‑instrument nature, e.g. directive, regulation, convention, act, standard.
limitintegeroptionalMaximum number of results. Default 8.

Returns

A set of matching regulatory items. Each item includes its title, a plain‑language summary, its jurisdiction and legal status, and an official reference with a link back to source — everything the assistant needs to cite the answer precisely.

Example prompts

You do not call the tool directly — you ask the assistant, and it builds the call. Natural questions that trigger it:

Which EU directives govern medical device clinical evaluation?
What changed in REACH for PFAS this year?
Is the CSRD in force for non-EU parent companies, and when?

Words like "latest", "recent" or "this week" still route here — the regulatory database, not a news feed, is the authoritative source for what changed and whether it is binding.

Usage & limits

Each tool call counts as one verified request against your plan (Free 50 / Pro 500 / Expert 5,000 per month). When you reach your limit, the tool returns an upgrade message instead of results.
