EU Safety Gate recorded 15 serious chemical-risk alerts on jewellery between October 2, 2026 and October 9, 2026, covering bracelets, necklaces, earrings and piercing jewellery for nickel release, cadmium, or both. Thirteen of the 15 products originate in the People's Republic of China.
EU importers of fashion and costume jewellery sourced from China, EU jewellery retailers and distributors, online marketplaces selling jewellery into the EU, EU piercing and body jewellery sellers, and EU jewellery brand owners (Amanda B is named in the alerts) must immediately check stock and online listings against the 15 alerted jewellery products, obtain supplier REACH Annex XVII (Entry 27 nickel release, Entry 23 cadmium) test reports to EN 1811, and ensure technical files and corrective measures are in place, or non-compliant jewellery is withdrawn from the market, recalled from end users or made subject to corrective measures, with Member State penalties applying for breaches of REACH Annex XVII.

The pattern
The danger texts name nickel in 11 of the 15 alerts and cadmium in 5. Measured nickel release reaches 104 µg/cm2/week, with other alerts at up to 79, 76, 61, 49, 33, 29 and 0.37 µg/cm2/week. Cadmium is named at 9.5%, 19%, 37%, 75.8% and up to 77% by weight. All 15 alerts state that the product does not comply with the REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. No harmonised standard is cited.
Thirteen products originate in the People's Republic of China and two have an unknown origin. Luxembourg notified nine alerts, Sweden three, and Estonia, Finland and France one each. The shared root cause is nickel-releasing and cadmium-heavy costume jewellery sourced predominantly from China: a REACH Annex XVII Entry 27 and Entry 23 gap, not a change to the restriction.
Who is exposed
EU importers of fashion and costume jewellery sourced from China hold the upstream file: 13 of the 15 products originate there. EU jewellery retailers, distributors and online marketplaces selling jewellery into the EU hold the stock and listings the measures cover. Piercing and body jewellery sellers sit with the French piercing-jewellery recall of October 2, 2026. Brand owners are in scope where a brand is named: Amanda B, on the Finnish earrings alert. Fourteen alerts are unbranded.
What to check now
- Match stock and online listings to the 15 alerted bracelets, necklaces, earrings and piercing jewellery, including the three Swedish alerts in the Sources.
- Obtain supplier test reports for nickel release under REACH Annex XVII Entry 27, to EN 1811, and for cadmium under Entry 23.
- Keep the technical file for skin-contact jewellery aligned with the REACH restriction and with the measure ordered on any matching batch.
- Apply the ordered measure: corrective measures (10), market withdrawal (3), or recall from end users and withdrawal (2).
- Trace the Amanda B earrings notified by Finland on October 2, 2026 separately from the 14 unbranded notices.
Continuous per-jurisdiction monitoring surfaces a jewellery recall wave of this kind the moment Safety Gate publishes the alerts.
