EU Safety Gate recorded 13 serious recalls of electrical appliances and equipment between October 9 and October 16, 2026, every one notified by Sweden. All 13 name phthalates in cable plastic, 12 also name lead and short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs), and 8 name cadmium in solder, in breach of the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU.

EU importers of headphones, wireless mice, portable lamps and karaoke machines from China, EU online marketplaces listing those electrical accessories, and the brands CATASSU, Chao Sheng, Voice for love and Hyundai (the alerted headphone model) must immediately check EU stock and online listings against the alerted models and obtain supplier test reports for DEHP, DBP and SCCPs in cable plastic and for lead and cadmium in solder, plus the RoHS technical file. Otherwise the products are withdrawn from the market and their online listings removed for non-compliance with the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and the EU POPs Regulation.

The pattern

Every alert finds phthalates in cable plastic: bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) up to 8.7% by weight and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) up to 6.1% by weight. Twelve notices also report SCCPs in that plastic (up to 4.98% by weight) and lead in the solder (0.145% to 72.7% by weight). Eight add cadmium in the solder, up to 0.385% by weight. Four cite the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. SCCP findings sit on the EU POPs Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2019/1021).

Twelve of the 13 products originate in the People's Republic of China. The Hyundai Bluetooth headphones have an unknown origin. Sweden notified all 13. Kemikalieinspektionen Enforcement 5/26, published with the May 11, 2026 news, found DEHP, DBP and SCCPs in cable plastic and lead in solder in 30 percent of 209 home-electronics products. The 2026 project continues on the same low-cost pattern.

Who is exposed

Importers of headphones, wireless mice, portable lamps and karaoke machines from China into the EU are exposed, as are online marketplaces listing those accessories. Named brands are CATASSU, Chao Sheng, Voice for love and Hyundai (the alerted headphone model). Nine alerts are unbranded. Sweden notified the wave. It is not the exposed actor.

What to check now

  • Match EU stock and listings to the 13 models, including CATASSU, Chao Sheng, Voice for love and Hyundai.
  • Obtain cable-plastic test reports for DEHP (up to 8.7% by weight) and DBP (up to 6.1% by weight).
