What did China's NHC Announcement No. 6 of 2026 publish?
On September 22, 2026, China's National Health Commission and SAMR posted Announcement No. 6 of 2026 (dated August 18, 2026), publishing 50 national food safety standards and modification sheets under the Food Safety Law, headlined by GB 31668-2026 Milk Protein. The 50 items are 29 new or revised 2026 GB texts plus 21 modification sheets.
When do the new China food safety GB standards apply?
Each GB text sets its own date. The 21 additive, colour, and dairy-method modification sheets already apply from August 18, 2026. Most analytical methods and additive specifications apply from February 18, 2027. GB 31607-2021 Amendment No. 1 applies from March 16, 2027. Product standards and contamination-control codes, including GB 31668-2026, apply from August 18, 2027.
Do overseas food exporters to China have to comply with this GB batch?
Yes. National food safety standards are the binding technical floor under the Food Safety Law for food placed on the Chinese market. Overseas producers, including GACC-registered facilities, face the same GB codes at the border as domestic plants, covering product specs, process-control codes, additive specifications, and laboratory methods.
